THE CONJURING 2

WHO: Patrick Wilson, Vera Farmiga, Franka Potente, Frances O’Connor
WHAT: The best horror movie of the last five years finally gets a true sequel, after 2014’s good-but-not-great spinoff Annabelle. INDEPENDENCE DAY: RESURGENCE

WHO: Jeff Goldblum, Liam Hemsworth, Joey King, Sela Ward, Bill Pullman
WHAT: For twenty years, director Roland Emmerich has been thinking about how exactly he’d make a sequel to his spectacular Independence Day, and the result looks as visually awesome as it’s going to need to be to live up to the 15-mile-wide shadow of the original.
WHEN: June 24

THE SHALLOWS

WHO: Blake Lively
WHAT: Most actors these days attempt a movie where it’s just them on screen the whole time, with nobody much to talk to and just the elements to contend with. (See: 127 Hours, Buried, Gravity, and All is Lost.) This is Blake Lively’s.
WHEN: June 24

On the next page: Ghostbusters, Star Trek Beyond, and Jason Bourne
