Universal “indefinitely” halted plans for Pacific Rim 2 last year, but lo and behold, the slumbering giant is stirring beneath the water.
Original director Guillermo del Toro has forever insisted it was still alive, in much the same statement he used to assure the world his The Hobbit adaptation was still happening, before he finally jumped ship for Pacific Rim in 2010.
Now, screenwriter Derek Connolly (Jurassic World, Safety Not Guaranteed) has been hired to re-write the script for what is currently going by the name Pacific Rim: Maelstrom.
Steven S. DeKnight (director of Daredevil‘s first-season finale) is attached to direct. Del Toro remains involved in a producing capacity.
In addition the script for Jurassic World, Connolly has also worked on the screenplays for the upcoming Kong: Skull Island and Jurassic World 2.
Pacific Rim: Maelstrom still has no release date.
