Kickboxer: Vengeance, a remake/reboot of 1989’s Kickboxer, doesn’t hit theatres for another three months, but that hasn’t stopped plans for a sequel to go forward.
The reboot will be followed by Kickboxer: Retaliation, which is already filming at present. Former world heavyweight champion Mike Tyson has joined Retaliation, joining 14 other fighters from the sporting world.
Tyson will play a convict forced into the world of fighting while in prison.
Kickboxer: Retaliation is being directed by John Stockwell, who also directed Vengeance. While Jean-Claude Van Damme returns to the franchise in August’s Kickboxer: Vengeance, he is not signed to return for Retaliation.
Tyson has enjoyed a career resurgence as an actor since his extended cameo as a caricature of himself in The Hangover. Since 2009, he’s also appeared in Scary Movie 5, Grudge Match, and Ip Man 3, while anchoring the animated Adult Swim series Mike Tyson Mysteries.
