This morning at the crack of dawn, a half-dozen of Hollywood’s elite will announce to the world the nominations for the 90th Academy Awards. What movies can you expect to be up for the treasured trophies this year? CORE STORY: The Academy invites most diverse class of new members ever

After the #OscarsSoWhite campaign compelled the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to overhaul their rules and voting members earlier this year, most attention has been elsewhere. With AMPAS’s annual list of invitees, though, they’re back in the spotlight.

AMPAS sent out a record 683 invitations to new members Wednesday — more than double last year’s number — with 46% of them to women and 41% to people of colour. Continue reading
