CORE STORY: Warner Bros. finally reveals the mystery behind Collateral Beauty

Ever since Collateral Beauty was announced last year, it’s plot has been kept under tight wraps.

A month ago, star Will Smith told Entertainment Weekly, “It was one of those [times] where you get a screenplay and you are in by page 10.” Beyond that, though, he wouldn’t go into details about the plot, which he said would “be tough to promote.”

This morning, Warner Bros. released the first trailer for Collateral Beauty, finally spilling the beans on the central mystery of the hopeful holiday movie.

In the fall of 2013, the sci-fi masterpiece Gravity took the world by storm. In late 2014, the spectacular Interstellar did the same. Now here we are, in the first week of October 2015, and sure enough, here comes The Martian. And lo and behold, it’s absolutely brilliant.

Last summer, everyone seemed shocked that Guardians of the Galaxy was a great, really fun movie. Before its release, conversations were peppered with skeptical remarks about a talking raccoon and a walking tree. Afterwards, of course, everyone loved it and commended Marvel for being able to do what is just second-nature to the studio now.

Now here we are, one summer later, and audiences are skeptical that Ant-Man can be a great, really fun movie. Leading up to its release, conversations have been peppered with skeptical remarks about the main character’s lameness and production troubles.
